Companies

This is really the luck of the draw - you may end up in xiong company, you may end up in welfare company. To be honest, there's really little way you can predict where you will go, or what a certain coy (short form for company) is like. For one, the nature of companies can change: Obese coy can be Enhanced coy in the next batch.

What I can say for sure, however, is that your own batchmates will know. Word will spread.

Will being in the number one xiong company make you a better soldier? Maybe, maybe not. But you will be justified in having some pride that you made it through. I remember everyone else murmuring during the self-introductions at the start of OCS whenever anyone said they were from 5th Coy, or Kestrel, or some such.

The only persistent differences, as far as I know, are that:
1) Coys near the small cookhouse will use the small cookhouse, and coys near the big cookhouse will use the big cookhouse (duh). Small cookhouse is generally thought to be a little more sian, because you must stand in line, be orderly, etc.
2) Apache, Pegasus and Ulysses coys will always be laughed at when they sing army songs, because army songs are made for two syllable names.
3) First through Seventh coys have boring names.
4) Viper coy will be called "Wiper" by the bigshot Sergeant Majors during Graduation Parade Rehearsals.
